Andrew Kang: Figure AI founder Brett Adcock successfully attracted world-class roboticists and has rare combination of hardware + business scaling experience

Andrew Kang· Mechanism Capital· Robotics· 2026-06-02· about Figure AI
There were a few other human robotic companies that had been around for longer than figure by the time that they were incorporated. But their rate of iteration and their speed of execution was completely unmatched... Brett was really one of the only few founders I had found at the time that was able to do that... His first company, Vettery, it was a company focused basically on recruitment, right? And so he understood and built a skill set of how do I find and attract the best talent in the world... And the second company, Archer, which he took public... he was innovating a whole new type of complex machinery that really hadn't existed before commercially.

Why it matters

Figure's competitive advantage rests heavily on Brett Adcock's proven ability to recruit PhDs in specialized fields (computer vision, robotics, hand engineering) and scale complex hardware businesses. This is a non-replicable advantage in near term.

Investment implication

Figure's team composition and founder track record justify premium valuation. Key risk: founder departure or key talent attrition. Other humanoid startups will struggle to compete on talent acquisition.
