Fairwater liquid-cooling system enables 30x token cost reduction vs. Hopper, critical infrastructure for next-gen data center economics

Jensen Huang· NVIDIA· AI· 2024-05-21· about NVIDIA (NVDA)
Fairwater is just a magnificent system to look at. It's just a miracle of engineering. It's completely liquid-cooled. It's closed-looped, basically uses almost no water. And it's incredibly environmentally friendly. We're able to increase the token generation rate and reduce the cost of token generation by an order of magnitude, some 30 times over Hopper.

Why it matters

Closed-loop liquid cooling becomes a bottleneck-breaking technology that directly improves TCO and enables profitable token generation at scale. This is now table-stakes for competitive data centers.

Investment implication

Liquid cooling specialists and immersion cooling vendors become critical infrastructure partners. Data center operators must upgrade cooling to remain cost-competitive, driving capex for cooling infrastructure.
