“China has intentionally taken a strategy over decades of strategically chokepointing key supply chain items. So the rare earth magnets is one that came up... they basically have locked down export of man magnet manufacturing technologies as well as controlling the outflows of those magnets as a negotiating lever. Well that's one of probably about 30 things they're doing this on... another one that's come up is Germanium. We use this for infrared lenses... titanium, hapneum, there's all these weird kind of components in this... they were also buying up the independent suppliers of copper film that's used on PCBs... they bought up the European ones, and then they tried to buy the US one, but that was blocked by... CFIUS regulations.”
