Marvell Scale-Up Switch TAM Emerging; PCIe Limitations (Radix, Bandwidth) Driving Transition to Purpose-Built UAL, EON, NVLink Solutions; Multiple Tier-1 Customer Engagements Represent Billions in Lifetime Value

Matt Murphy· Marvell Technology· AI· 2026-05-23· about Marvell Technology; NVIDIA (MRVL; NVDA)
While some customers are currently deploying PCIe switches for their current generation of scaleup networking, the radics and bandwidth limitations of PCIe are expected to drive a rapid transition towards purpose-built large radics high bandwidth UA link, EON, and NVLink solutions. Marll is uniquely positioned to support all of these scaleup protocols through our internally developed UAL and EON switches as well as our expanded partnership with NVIDIA around NVLink Fusion.

Why it matters

PCIe-based scale-up networking is a temporary workaround facing fundamental bandwidth and latency limitations. Hyperscalers are transitioning to purpose-built switches (UAL, EON, NVLink), creating a new $1B+ TAM for specialized switch silicon and silicon photonics integration.

Investment implication

Scale-up switch market will see rapid architecture change. Suppliers supporting NVLink, EON, and UAL protocols (Marvell, NVIDIA partners) will gain share. PCIe-only switch vendors (Broadcom NVMe/compute segments) face displacement in scale-up segments. Custom switch design services will be high-demand.
